Top 5 Most Anticipated Movies of 2017

[That are NOT comic book or Star Wars related.]

Every year, it seems we get gang tackled with some awesome looking movies. If we've gotten gang tackled in the past, I don't know how to describe what 2017 will be doing to us movie goers and our wallets. I wrote a list of over 30... Yeah, you read that right, 3-0... movies that are slated to be released in 2017. Out of those 30 plus movies, about 25 of those are on my "must watch" list.

What I decided to do, was make a list of my top 5 most anticipated films of 2017, that are NOT comic book or Star Wars related (because, let's face it... who ISN'T stoked for the upcoming Marvel/DC/Star Wars flicks).

Here's that list!

5. Ghost in the Shell

Release Date: March 31

Number 5 goes to "Ghost in the Shell".

Now, I know you're going to say, "Danny, 'Ghost in the Shell' is based off of a manga! You don't know s**t!", and yes, I totally know it's based off the 1989-90 manga, which was given an Anime adaption in 1995.

It's on this list because we've had very few, if any big screen Anime adaptions in America... successful ones at that. It would be pretty cool if this film turns out to be as good as it looks. There's been a lot of controversy surrounding this upcoming movie, but none of that has made me any less interested in watching GitS one bit.

I'm pretty stoked for this release.

4. God Particle

Release Date: October 27

This JJ Abrams produced film is rumored to be another installment in the "Cloverfield" universe. Though surrounded in mystery, which is nothing new when it comes to Mr. Abrams, hearing JJ Abrams and "Cloverfield" in the same sentence is enough to get me excited for "God Particle".

3. Alien: Covenant

Release Date: May 19

Being a HUGE fan of "Prometheus", it's only natural that this movie would make my list. The announcement of the title alone got me excited. The trailer was released less than a week ago, and this movie looks like it's going to be awesome.

Funny story, but I had NO idea that James Franco was going to be in this film till a few days after watching the trailer. Along with Franco, we'll be seeing Michael Fassbender, as one of the lead characters, as well as Guy Pearce and Noomi Rapace reprising their roles in some way, shape or form.

"Alien: Covenant" is going to be SICK!

2. War for the Planet of the Apes

Release Date: July 14

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" turned out to be a HUGE surprise. They followed that up with "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", which was a gem! Now, we're getting "War for the Planet of the Apes"... Oh, boy! Looks like we're going to get another powerful performance from Andy Serkis' Ceasar. And don't expect Woody Harrelson to give us anything less than a big performance as well!

I really don't expect this movie to disappoint.

1. Dunkirk

Release Date: July 21

This one's simple.

  • Tell me Christopher Nolan is directing a movie.
  • Give us the vaguest teaser trailer, just to let us know the setting of the film.
  • Then drop a trailer that doesn't give us too much but just enough to get us excited. The same formula that "Inception" and "Interstellar" reeled me in with.
  • Throw Cillian Murphy in the movie.Oh yeah! Then put the icing on the cake... TOM HARDY.

Did I mention that the WW2 era was my favorite part of history class in high school?

Nolan, you're a bad man.
